Fat shaming fuels the fad diet industry and unrealistic fitspiration. It can lead to weight gain.
It isn’t really about “concern” for anyone’s health because health cannot be determined by the number on a scale.
Beyond that, even unhealthy bodies are acceptable.
Optimal health and fitness isn’t always possible, and it is never owed.
So criticizing others’ bodies for not meeting an arbitrary standard of acceptable minimum health, especially when we all do things that potentially compromise our health mentally and physically, isn’t a demonstration of loving concern."
I don’t agree with shaming. Period. But can some of these people trying to use the argument that ‘weight isn’t associated with health risk’ just please read a fucking scholarly journal for once and actually realize that there is an inarguable correlation between excessive body fat and chronic diseases?
This does not apply to all fat people. Some individuals who fall into the category of overweight or obese are really truly healthy when all factors are considered. But theres a reason why innumerable health conditions are prevented, controlled or even cured by proper nutrition and regular exercise.
This isn’t an issue of body confidence or fat shaming its fucking science.
